Description

Arkuda Therapeutics is a biotechnology company leveraging new insights in lysosome biology to develop medicines to change the trajectory of neurodegenerative diseases such as frontotemporal dementia (FTD), Parkinson’s disease (PD), Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and Alzheimer’s disease (AD). Arkuda’s lead compounds aim to correct progranulin deficiency and lysosomal dysfunction in granulin-related frontotemporal dementia (FTD-GRN), a genetically defined subtype of frontotemporal dementia caused by an autosomal dominant mutation in the GRN gene. We are seeking an exceptional scientist to expand our team’s capabilities. The successful candidate should be highly motivated, creative, flexible, and enjoy working in a team-based environment.

This position is >75% laboratory-based and will operate out of our site in Watertown, MA and will report to the Vice President of Neurobiology. It requires strong experimental skills with a background in neuroscience and/or cell biology. The position will have growth potential and the successful candidate will be exposed to different activities related to drug discovery as the company grows. The successful candidate will be expected to function independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment and help generate, analyze and communicate results. Moreover, the candidate should be able to contribute ideas for the investigation of novel biology. The candidate should have a Ph.D. in neuroscience, cell biology or related field. Salary will be competitive and commensurate with experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Development and implementation of assays to probe mechanism of action of compounds
  • Assessment of compound efficacy via biochemical and molecular biology techniques, such as immunostaining, immunoblotting, qPCR, high-content imaging, ELISA, enzyme assays
  • Management of CRO work
  • Supervision of research associate(s)
  • Collaboration with team members to prioritize activities based on company goals
  • Analysis of experimental data and addressing methodological problems
  • Documentation, compilation, and assistance in interpretation of experimental data in ELN
  • Presentation of data in oral and written reports to senior management


Requirements

Experience and skills required:

  • A Ph.D. with up to 4 years of experience in neuroscience, cell biology or related discipline
  • Proven track record in their field of studies as evidenced by a strong publication record
  • Ability to conceive, defend, initiate and carry out as well as manage experiments is essential
  • Knowledge of lysosomal and neurodegenerative disease biology are a plus
  • Strong understanding of cell biology and related in vitro techniques, experience in neurobiology and assay development is a plus
  • Excellent communication and analytical skills
