The Division of Geriatrics, Hospice, and Palliative Medicine, Department of Internal Medicine at the University of California, Davis, School of Medicine, is recruiting for one full-time faculty member in the Professor of Clinical X or Health Sciences Clinical Professor series at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor rank in Geriatric Medicine and as Co-Director of the Healthy Aging in a Digital World Initiative. Faculty in the Clinical X series is expected to engage in professional competence and activity, teaching, research and creative work, and University/public service. Faculty in the Health Sciences Clinical Professor series are expected to engage in teaching, professional competence and activity, scholarly or creative activities, and University/public service. The Co-Director of the Healthy Aging in a Digital World Initiative from the School of Medicine will work in partnership with the Co-Director of the Healthy Aging in a Digital World Initiative from the Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing, and will build upon strong connections with the Clinical and Translational Science Center (CTSC), Family Caregiving Institute (FCI), the Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center (ADRC), and the College of Engineering (COE) to advance research discerning optimal supports for older adults with dementia and other complex health care needs. The primary purpose of this is to build capacity and advance research and collaborations that improve the health and well-being of older adults. Healthy Aging in a Digital World (HADW) is a major research effort promoting health and independence for older adults through accessible and age-friendly innovative technology solutions. These initiatives bring together an array of transdisciplinary collaborators across the UC Davis comprehensive university and engage a wide variety of community groups and individuals, offering valuable connections for investigators associated with HADW. Based in Sacramento, the UC Davis Medical Center (UCDMC) is a nationally renowned academic medical center where clinical practice, teaching, and research converge to advance human health. UCDMC serves 33 counties covering a 65,000-square mile area from Sacramento north to the Oregon border and east to Nevada. It is the top-ranked hospital in Sacramento by U.S. News and World Report and is among the nation’s best in 11 medical specialties. It has been the No. 1 hospital in Sacramento for at least the last 13 years and among the Top 10 in the state for over a decade. Centers of excellence at the UC Davis Medical Center include state-of-the-art emergency departments (including a designated age-friendly ED) that include the region’s only Level I adult and pediatric trauma centers, serving approximately 150 patients per day; the UC Davis Comprehensive Cancer Center, one of only 49 National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive centers nationwide; the nationally recognized Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center; and a pioneering telehealth program, which gives remote, underserved communities access to academic specialty and subspecialty care. UCDMC is also ranked as the #1 geriatrics provider in the region, and #27 nationally. Geriatric Medicine Faculty responsibilities include inpatient and/or outpatient clinical care; teaching medical students, residents, and fellows; university/public service; and regular attendance at scheduled meetings and CME activities. The incumbents should be able to provide expert clinical care in the field of geriatric medicine. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with a diverse group of colleagues depending on their clinical area of focus. Multidisciplinary collaboration is expected for consultative ambulatory practice with support from physical therapy, pharmacy, nursing and social work. Inpatient geriatrics consultative work to support orthopedics, trauma service and hospital medicine is also available. QUALIFICATIONS
Basic qualifications (required at time of application) Must possess and maintain a Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) degree or equivalent degree. Additional qualifications (required at time of start) Board certified in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine and board certified in Geriatrics Eligible for or currently licensed to practice medicine in California Demonstrated experience in outpatient and/or inpatient geriatric medicine, with strong skills in symptom management, serious illness communication, and complex care coordination Interest or experience in medical education, quality improvement, and/or clinical research, especially within an academic health system Demonstrated commitment to culturally responsive care and improving access and outcomes for diverse patient populations Demonstrated experience in developing, implementing, and evaluating innovative, technology-enabled solutions that promote health, independence, and quality of life for older adults, including those living with dementia and complex health care needs which could include smart homes, wearables, telehealth/telemonitoring. Ability to foster and sustain partnerships with community stakeholders, including health systems, post-acute care providers, skilled nursing facilities, and memory care organizations, to strengthen translational research and real-world impact. In coordination with the Development team, must have the ability to secure and steward extramural funding from philanthropic gifts, competitive grants, and industry partnerships to ensure the growth and sustainability of Healthy Aging in a Digital World.
