Key Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough mental health assessments, considering the unique needs, physical health, and cognitive challenges of older adults, ensuring personalized care.
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans that are sensitive to each patient's background, preferences, and clinical condition.
- Deliver evidence-based therapeutic interventions, including individual and family therapy, tailored specifically for geriatric populations.
- Coordinate closely with geriatric psychiatrists, primary care physicians, and other health care professionals to ensure comprehensive and integrated care.
- Provide crisis intervention services during mental health emergencies, leveraging your clinical skills to de-escalate situations effectively.
- Engage in patient and family education on mental health conditions, therapeutic modalities, and community resources available for additional support.
- Maintain meticulous and confidential documentation in compliance with legal and ethical standards using electronic health record (EHR) systems.
- Participate actively in team meetings, case consultations, and professional development activities to enhance skills and knowledge.
- Stay informed about the latest research and best practices in geriatric psychiatry to continuously enhance the quality of care provided.
Patient Population / Client Focus
This role primarily focuses on a geriatric patient population, addressing various psychiatric and emotional challenges faced by elderly individuals. You will work with patients experiencing diverse issues, from cognitive impairments associated with dementia to mood disorders and adjustment challenges due to health or life changes. Your expertise will directly influence their mental health outcomes, promoting a better quality of life for each individual.
Qualifications
- A master's or doctoral degree in Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, Mental Health Counseling, or Psychology from an accredited institution.
- Current and valid licensure as an LCSW, LPC, or LMFT in Texas is mandatory.
- A minimum of two years of supervised experience in mental health therapy is preferred, with a focus on geriatric patients being a significant advantage.
- Strong grounding in geriatric mental health disorders and evidence-based treatment modalities.
- Demonstrated competency in individual and family therapy specifically directed at older adult patients.

Compensation and Benefits
