Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive mental health assessments for elderly clients, identifying their specific psychological needs and care requirements.
- Provide both individual and group counseling sessions, focusing on emotional challenges associated with aging, such as grief, depression, and anxiety.
- Collaborate closely with interdisciplinary healthcare teams to create and implement tailored care plans that address the unique mental health issues faced by geriatric residents.
- Educate and support both staff and family members in strategies and interventions aimed at enhancing the emotional well-being and overall quality of life for older adults.
- Facilitate grief counseling and support services for individuals and families dealing with end-of-life issues.
- Implement cognitive stimulation and mental health intervention programs designed to maintain and promote mental acuity in aging populations.
Patient Population / Client Focus
This role primarily focuses on the geriatric population, addressing a variety of mental health challenges such as dementia, depression, and anxiety. You will work with elderly clients who are often navigating difficult life transitions, such as relocation to senior living facilities or coping with loss. Your expertise will help improve their emotional resilience and capacity to adapt to these changes effectively.
Qualifications
- A Master's degree in Mental Health Counseling from an accredited institution.
- Current and valid Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) status in the state of Florida.
- At least four years of recent experience in geriatric mental health counseling or related fields.
- Demonstrated knowledge of evidence-based interventions tailored for older adults.
- Strong assessment capabilities to accurately gauge mental health needs and develop effective treatment plans.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of building rapport with elderly clients.
- Empathy and cultural awareness to provide support tailored to a diverse aging population.
Preferred Experience
- Specialized training in geriatric mental health or additional certifications related to aging and mental health support.
- History of providing group therapy sessions specifically for elderly individuals.
- Familiarity with various therapeutic modalities and their applicability in treating older adults.
Compensation and Benefits
We offer a competitive salary range between $65,000 and $95,000 annually, complemented by the potential for a sign-on bonus.
